Looking to space, starting with Lebanon’s fields
The idea behind CedarField begins with a question about who gets to benefit from technological progress.
The Distance I Keep Noticing
When I think about innovation in Lebanon, I keep coming back to the distance between what technology can do and what reaches people’s everyday work. Agriculture is one of the areas where that distance bothers me most.
I want to see more of that technical possibility reach the field: information that helps someone notice a change, understand a pattern, or decide where to look more closely. When useful tools remain out of reach, the consequences are carried by the farmer and, eventually, the crop.
That is where the idea for CedarField comes from. If satellites can observe agricultural land, could some of that information become accessible to someone managing a field in Lebanon, in a language they are comfortable using?
The Ambition Is Close to the Ground
The space part gets attention, but the part I find more interesting happens afterward. A satellite reading still needs an explanation. It needs context. It needs to answer a question that matters to the person receiving it.
I do not expect a dashboard to solve the difficulties of Lebanese agriculture. I do think there is room to build something useful without waiting for every larger problem to be resolved first.
CedarField is my attempt to explore that possibility. It starts with satellite data, but the ambition is close to the ground: making information easier to understand and putting it within reach of people whose work could benefit from it.
For me, that is a worthwhile place to direct innovation.
